A Quick Guide to Cleaning Leather Truck Seats

Mar 30th 2023

Choosing to upgrade your truck seats to leather is an excellent choice that improves your comfort in many ways. However, if you haven’t had a vehicle with leather seats before, you may be wondering how to keep them clean. Below is a quick guide to cleaning leather truck seats.

Vacuum Up Debris

The first step to cleaning leather seats is to vacuum up any loose dirt and crumbs you see. If you don’t, those food crumbs could dissolve and create a film on your seats that traps bacteria. And with dirt, you might end up scrubbing it into your seats instead of removing it if you don’t vacuum first.

Apply a Leather Cleaner

There are plenty of commercial cleaners on the market that you can use to clean your leather truck seats. Just make sure the one you choose doesn’t contain bleach or ammonia. If you want to make your own cleaner, the process is simple: mix one part dish soap with five parts water. Scrub the leather with the cleaner, making sure not to saturate it.

Rinse the Leather

The next step in cleaning your leather truck seats is to rinse off the cleaning solution. Use a damp rag with clean water to wipe away the cleaner residue. Again, be careful not to get the leather too wet because too much water can actually stain the leather.

Dry Your Leather Seats

The last step is to dry off the seats with a clean, dry towel, like a microfiber cloth. Make sure you press into the cracks and crevices to soak up any pooled water.

Clean Up Spills

If you spill liquid like coffee or soda on your leather seats, you’ll want to soak up as much of the liquid as possible before cleaning. Then, follow the steps in this guide, making sure to scrub away any sticky residue left behind. Cleaning your seats immediately is important to avoid stains from dark liquids.
